Boiler Upgrade Scheme · £9,000 Off-Gas Uplift

# Is My Oil or LPG Boiler Eligible for the £9,000 BUS Grant?

You likely qualify for the £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant if your home in England or Wales currently uses oil or LPG heating, has a valid EPC, and hasn't previously received a BUS or RHI grant. Greentech Renewables confirms exact eligibility during a free survey across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

## Fast Eligibility Checklist

- Your home is in England or Wales.
- Your current heating runs on oil, LPG or another off-gas-grid fossil fuel (not mains gas).
- You are replacing that oil/LPG system with an air source or ground source heat pump.
- You have a valid EPC (any rating A–G) issued in the last 10 years.
- The property has not previously received a BUS voucher or RHI payment.
- You own the property (homeowner, landlord, or second-home owner).
- The installation is quoted by an MCS-certified installer.
- New-build properties (unless self-build) are not eligible.
- Air-to-air heat pumps and biomass boilers do not qualify for the £9,000 uplift.
- Homes on the mains gas grid receive the standard £7,500 grant, not £9,000.

If every green tick applies to your home, you almost certainly qualify for the full £9,000 uplift. If you're unsure about any item, our free survey confirms eligibility before any paperwork is filed.

## What the £9,000 uplift actually is

From **21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027**, Ofgem is paying an extra £1,500 on top of the standard £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for homes replacing oil or LPG heating with an air source or ground source heat pump. The uplift is designed for rural, off-gas grid properties where fossil-fuel heating costs are highest and grid connection is not an option. [Read the full uplift rules →](/boiler-upgrade-scheme-bus#off-gas-uplift)

## Who is definitely not eligible for the £9,000 rate

- Homes on mains gas — you get the standard £7,500 grant instead.
- New-build properties (unless self-built by the current owner).
- Air-to-air heat pumps and biomass boilers — these have separate grant tiers.
- Properties that have already received a BUS voucher or RHI payment.
- Homes with no valid EPC and no willingness to obtain one.

## Manchester and Cheshire in practice

Most Greater Manchester borough properties are on the mains gas grid and qualify for the £7,500 standard grant, not £9,000. The £9,000 uplift is most common in rural fringes — parts of **Cheshire**, **north Manchester**, **Lancashire** and village properties across the wider North West where mains gas has never been extended. Greentech Renewables covers every postcode across M, WN, WA, SK, OL, BL, BB and CW.

## What Greentech Renewables handles for you

- Free MCS heat loss survey and heat pump sizing.
- EPC review — and arranging a fresh assessment where needed.
- Ofgem BUS voucher application on your behalf.
- Direct deduction of the £9,000 grant from your final invoice.
- Redemption claim submission inside the 120-day rule.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How do I know if my home is 'off-gas grid' for the £9,000 BUS grant?

Off-gas grid means your property is not connected to the mains gas network. If your heating currently runs on heating oil, LPG (bottled or bulk tank), coal, or direct electric heating, and you have no gas meter or gas standing charge on your energy bills, you almost certainly qualify as off-gas grid. Village properties in Cheshire, north Manchester and rural Lancashire are the most common cases.

### My oil boiler still works — can I still claim the £9,000 grant?

Yes. The BUS scheme actively encourages replacement of working fossil-fuel systems. Ofgem does not require your existing boiler to have failed; a working oil or LPG boiler is fully eligible for replacement under the £9,000 uplift between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027.

### Does my EPC need to be a specific rating for the £9,000 grant?

No. Any EPC rating A–G qualifies, provided the certificate is less than 10 years old. Since 2026, outstanding insulation recommendations on your EPC no longer block eligibility. If your EPC is older than 10 years, a fresh assessment costs £60–£120.

### I have LPG central heating. Is that eligible for the full £9,000?

Yes. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) heating — whether from bottled cylinders or a bulk tank — is treated the same as heating oil under BUS. Replacing an LPG boiler with an air source or ground source heat pump qualifies for the £9,000 grant.

### Can I use the £9,000 BUS grant with the Warm Homes Local Grant?

No. BUS cannot be combined with the Warm Homes Local Grant, ECO4, or LA Flex on the same property. If your household income is under £36,000, the Warm Homes Plan may be more valuable (up to £15,000 with insulation) — otherwise the £9,000 BUS grant is the highest-value route for off-gas grid homeowners.

### How long will it take from enquiry to grant deduction?

Typical Greentech Renewables timeline in Greater Manchester and Cheshire: free survey within 5–7 working days, MCS design and BUS voucher application in week 2, Ofgem approval in 2–4 weeks, installation in week 6–10, and the £9,000 deducted directly from your final invoice. We handle the entire Ofgem process.
