How Long Do Solar Panels Last?

Solar panels typically last 25-30 years with minimal maintenance. Here's what to expect over their lifetime.

    Panel Lifespan

Most solar panels carry a 25-year performance warranty guaranteeing at least 80% of original output. In practice, panels continue producing electricity well beyond 30 years — the degradation rate is just 0.3-0.5% per year.

    Inverter and Battery Lifespan

String inverters typically last 10-15 years and may need replacing once during your panels' lifetime (£800-£1,200). Hybrid inverters with battery integration last 10-12 years. Batteries carry 10-year warranties with 5,000-6,000 cycle ratings.

    Maintenance Requirements

Solar panels need very little maintenance. An annual visual check, occasional rain-wash (or manual clean every 2-3 years), and monitoring system output is usually sufficient. No moving parts means very little can go wrong.
